"Monsters vs Aliens"

Went to the movies with a friend the other day and we saw a poster for the movie Monsters vs Aliens.

My friend told me that every time the commercial for the film came on TV,  his little niece drove him crazy about wanting to see it. Not too long ago, he said to his niece, “So, you want to go see Monsters vs Aliens?”

She suddenly looked panicked and said, “No. No monsters and aliens.”

I wonder if the marketers behind the film ever thought about the reaction kids might have when they hear the name of it, being that kids are typically terrified of monsters and aliens.

I took my kids to see it because they had the same exact reaction. They loved it. I guess its the same title concept as Monsters Inc. Dedramatize the “monsters” make them cute funny and loveable. This makes them fear “monsters” much less.

I hope it helped dedramatize them. If I were a kid, I’d be OK right after watching the movie, but as soon as I got into bed and turned off the lights, I’d be a nervous wreck! :)
