The event was, essentially, WorstPizza.com taking their famous Pizza TweetUps to the next level by teaming up with a local Chevy dealership. 20 people were selected to ride in five brand new Chevy’s to various pizza restaurants, eat pizza, drive the cars and critique both.

We all met up at Maroone Chevrolet to get our t-shirts, sign some waivers and dig through our Chevy Pizza Crawl Survival Kits, fully equipped with pizza cutters, floss, hand sanitizer, tissues, whoopee cushions, a compass, breath mints, gum, whistles and much more fun stuff!

We then went outside to meet our escorts for the day: a Tahoe, a Malibu, an Equinox, a Corvette (convertible) and a Camaro.

Jarret, Alina, Leah and I piled into the Camaro and immediately named her Roxy. That car is just as sexy on the inside as it is on the outside. We had to test the OnStar feature on every car so we called OnStar, asked the operator for directions to our destination and the car was suddenly speaking to us, telling us where to go.

Jarret (@Jarret23) and Alina (@TheAlina)

Jarret showed off his driving skills as he quickly got us on the highway – naturally, everyone driving wanted to test the cars’ potential once we were on I-95. Here’s a tip: while the Camaro is an amazing car, even from the the backseat, tweeting, taking pictures and video taping everyone’s reactions can get a little nauseating. I had to put all the electronic devices down and breath for a little bit or I’d be the first person to throw up… even before eating all the pizza! Regardless of that little set back, I’m in love with the car.

We got to our first destination, Zuccarelli’s Italian Kitchen, where the pizza was ok. It good enough to gobble up, but not enough to ask for seconds. It had a thin crust and was crunchy – not my type, but still tasty.

Next adventure: I was up to drive the Equinox! Jarret, Stephanie, Alina and Angie came along with me.

Me (@AgustinaP)

I called OnStar to get directions and the operator told me that my car wasn’t equipped with their directions feature. I felt left out in the cold and driving blind! She asked if I wanted to upgrade to that feature for $9.95… uh, no thanks, but at least now I know that the feature is cheap! I had no choice but to follow the Camaro. Bad move. I floored that little sporty-looking SUV and still couldn’t keep up. Even Stephanie asked if I was flooring it. I think I made it up to 60 MPH – way too slow for my liking.

A really cool feature about the car though: when I put the car in reverse and looked in the rear view mirror, not only was I glancing behind me, but at a little video camera that turned on to show me what I was backing in to. I was torn! Do I believe my eyes in the mirror that said I was about to hit the car behind me, or the camera that showed I still had about two feet of space?!

We arrived at our second destination, Palm Springs Pizza & Restaurant, where everyone gave the pizza a thumbs down. I didn’t mind it because it took me back to my childhood – I thought it tasted the same as Chuck E Cheese pizza. My only flaw with it is that I can’t stand when pizza is cut into squares and not slices.

Stephanie (@MidTownChica) and Angie (@AngieDi)

I called shotgun for the Malibu and had to listen to Alisha grill me for convincing her to drive that car when she wanted to drive the Corvette – oops Jarret, Angie and Joel came along for the slow, but fun ride. Alisha took advantage of an unhappy situation and asked the OnStar operator for some “rolls of hundreds.”

Alisha (@AlishaVera)

We drove, slowly, very slowly, to our third destination, Dom & Louie’s Pizza where the pizza was finger-licking good, but a little too hot. Their Godfather Pizza is huge!

Mike (@MikeLaMonica)

Filled to rim with pizza, I went back into the Camaro. Mike drove with Dori co-piloting and Angie and I held on for dear life in the back seat as Mike decided to race Johnny in his Equinox down I-95. I wonder what other drivers might have been thinking to see those two, oddly-paired cars race each other. I was in dire need of a barf bag and highly recommend Chevy to include one in their Survival Kit for the next time. While I managed to hold my food down, I decided to not eat anymore pizza for the day.

Johnny (@JohnnyBond86) and Willie (@MoreWillie)

I had to go back on my word as soon as we got to our fourth stop, Augy’s Italian Restaurant & Pizza. Their pizza was super doughy and loaded with cheese! I took one bite just to satisfy my taste buds and called it quits, but wow, was that one bite the best I had all day!

Michael (@TheWaffle), Joel (@JoelKodner), Seth (@BocaToyStore) and Robert (@Krow272)

I then jumped into the super sexy Corvette with Alina and zoomed towards our final stop. Our zooming was quickly slowed down when we realized that OnStar took us in the wrong direction and we had no idea how to get to where everyone else was. It was also impossible to hear OnStar’s directions while having the convertible top down.

Alina (@TheAlina)

Eventually, we made it to Tucci’s Fire N Coal where all I ingested was water.

We all survived the Chevy Pizza Crawl and were kicking back with some beer, water, a few more slices of pizza and recaps of the day.

Craig then gave out prizes for the day: Joel won funniest tweet, I won for honesty, Jarret won for funniest picture, Willie won the raffle and Johnny won for craziest driver.

Angie (@AngieDi), Joel (@JoelKodner), Craig (@Lapp), Stephanie (@MidTownChica), Me (@AgustinaP), Jarret (@Jarret23), Willie (@MoreWillie) and Johnny (JohnnyBond23)

It was a fun-filled day with friends, pizza and cars. What better way is there to spend your Saturday?

My review of the cars:

I didn’t go in the Tahoe because I’m just not SUV person and didn’t care to test it out.

The Malibu and Equinox are clearly family cars. Their inability to go over 60 MPH also makes me believe they’re perfect for a first time teenage driver and if my kids are anything like me as drivers, they’re definitely getting a Malibu or Equinox.

The Corvette is nice, but I don’t like two-seated cars or cars with long noses.

The Camaro is hands-down my favorite car. My VW lease is up in two months and I plan on checking out the Camaro soon

Thank you Chevy and Worst Pizza for a great day and experience!

A couple years ago, I was driving my 2007 Volkswagen Jetta down I-95 at very high speeds (I have a very heavy foot, so if you ever have a reason to fear me, fear me on the road) on an almost empty highway – there was one car in the lane next to me. For some reason, that very intelligent driver decided to cut into my lane (mind you, the highway was empty, he could’ve gone in any other direction, but no, I guess my lane was more appealing) and that move resulted in my rear-ending that car at the undisclosed, yet high speed. The crash was pretty intense , but when I inspected my car, it was in perfect shape! There was a tiny little crack on the bumper that is barely visible. I was really impressed with how the car came out of that incident. I was also fine, a little shaken, but alive and unharmed.

Tonight, I was driving on I-95 again during rush hour and had to stop short, the girl driving behind me didn’t react in time and rear-ended me. Again, my car was impeccable! I small panel along my back bumper was pushed in and her white car paint was smeared on mine, but I wasn’t hurt and the car was left in almost perfect condition.

After being loyal to Volkswagen for over six years, I’ve been toying with the idea of switching to a Mini Cooper in June, when my lease expires, but looking back at all the terrifying situations that little German piece of machinery got me through, I’m loyal for life!

From accidents to hydroplaning and from spinning out of control (just once) to even veering away from a crazy man who decided to run across I-95 (yes, that has actually happened!), Volkswagen has my devotion.

Volkswagen, not only do you make me feel safe, you actually keep me safe. Thank you for being so awesome.

Thursday night I received a tweet from Natalie Lent inviting me to an event for Stand Up To Cancer at the Mandarin Oriental Miami.

Natalie sent me an invite that read “Racing for a Cure. Her invites you to join Alex ‘Pink’ Lloyd for a very special screening of TIT FOR TAT, breast cancer awareness PSA, presented by Her.”

Once at the Mandarin Oriental, I was greeted by beautiful women wearing pink and white tank tops and hats that read “Her.”

Her Energy Drink was one of the hosts of an incredible weekend-long event that I had the honor of partaking in. IndyCar driver, Alex Lloyd, was the guest of honor – he made a quick appearance before going to rest up for his big race the next day.

Natalie introduced me to some of her colleagues from ID PR (based out of California), all of whom were great hosts (Her Energy Drink and Stand Up To Cancer are a few of their clients) and terrific people overall. She also introduced me to a friend who is the co-founder of Modern Mom. I always get a high from meeting brilliant and driven people like Natalie and her friends.

As the night was winding down, Natalie invited me to watch Alex Lloyd race the next day at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The only car races I’d ever been to were when my high school friends would drag race. So, excitedly, I accepted her offer.

We arrived at Homestead-Miami Speedway Saturday, received our VIP credentials and rode a tram through a tunnel and into the middle of the race track. We walked into a massive white tent and was greeted by more beautiful women with pink and white tank tops and hats that read “Her.” We were handed small Her pink lemonade cans with a straw; I used Her to keep me cool for the rest of the day.

The VIP treatment continued when we were taken on a tour of the pits. We learned all about the intricacies that go into racing. The drivers’ weight is equated to the weight of the car and slight alterations then need to be made the parts of the car to weigh in at a specific amount. We were also taken on a tour of the trucks that carry the cars and needed car parts around the world to each of the teams’ races.

After our tour, we headed back to the Her tent for a quick question and answer session with Alex Lloyd before his race.

Alex Lloyd

While he geared up to race, we were all given more credentials that allowed us into the pits during the race.

Standing next to the cars as they revved their engines and took off was an unbelievable feeling. I had goosebumps that refused to go away!

We were told that when the cars come into the pit, they get serviced in a matter of seconds. These guys worked so fast, you can barely tell that they just changed four tires!

Alex Lloyd finished the race in the top ten and everyone celebrated with cheers, high fives and hand shakes.

Standing in the pit while the crew worked and the cars zipped by was truly an amazing experience!

Aside from it being a terrific experience, it was all for a good cause. Stand Up To Cancer gave the Her IndyCar a number like no other. While all the other cars had single or double digit numbers, Her had #40202. If you didn’t guess it, 40202 is a text short code. Anyone who texted “Stand” to that number during the race would have $5 donated to Stand Up To Cancer in the texters’ name.

After the race ended, we hopped over the wall and took a stroll down Pit Lane in the direction of Danica Patrick’s spot. (We just had to!)

Given the state of the economy, I’m seeing more and more car commercials offering incentives to sell their vehicles. These incentives can range from cash-back rewards to a certain number of months with no car payment if the customer loses their job.

There’s one offer that I would be especially interested in and wonder why it hasn’t already been proposed.

I leased my very first car two years ago and when I reviewed my contract, I noticed that I have to a pay about 15 cents per mile if I exceeded my 36,000 mile limit for three years. I asked what would happen if I return the car with less than 36,000 miles. Would I get paid 15 cents per mile that I don’t exceed?

The answer was no.

Why don’t car dealerships offer their customers, with the hopes of keeping them for another lease, money back or some sort of credit for not exceeding their mileage?

Am I crazy to think this?

As the economy continues on its unstable course, I wonder what will happen to commercials on TV. I wonder how big companies decide to distribute funding; where to cut, maintain or boost it. I’ve heard that companies will usually cut their marketing departments first in times of economic distress.

At first I thought that companies wouldn’t cut their funding towards advertisement (primarily TV advertisement) because that’s their biggest form of exposure, but by the same token, isn’t it very pricey?

In advertising, I’ve heard that “sex sells;” but when times get tough and advertisers are competing even more, when does sexy advertisement go too far?

Two examples of tasteless commercials:

1. Joe’s Crab Shack: two men and a woman are sitting at a table, the woman gets her food in a covered steamer and one of the men says, “Take your top off.” The woman looks confused and says, “What?” The man repeats, “Take your top off.” You can’t help but find this man to be a pervert until the other man at the table lifts the top off the woman’s steamer to reveal steam-cooked lobster. The first man clearly meant to the take the top off the steamer, not for the woman to take her top off.

I think the commercial could’ve been executed in a more tasteful manner, one that doesn’t imply a man ordering a woman to take off her shirt.

2. Quiznos: this one was actually pretty disturbing. Their latest commercial starts with an oven telling an employee that it wants the young man to tell the audience about their new Torpedo sub. It hints that the oven and the employee have had a previous encounter which they “both enjoyed,” one which the employee doesn’t dispute. The oven tells the employee to tell watchers that the Torpedo is only $4; it tells the employee to repeat it two more times with more and more passion behind his message.

An oven and a human seeming to have had an affair? An oven ordering a man to be sexier? Kind of creepy.

An example of a great, and sexy, commercial that I don’t think I’ll ever forget is Kate Walsh driving a Cadillac CTS. In trying to sell the car to viewers, she describes the cars’ features and then says, “The real question is, when you turn your car on, does it return the favor?” Her words are followed by a shot of her stiletto pressing down on the accelerator.

Now, that commercial is sexy, not raunchy like the others.
